Data Spotlight #4

As dedicated data curators, we’re excited to showcase curated data collections that will hopefully ignite your research interests.
Today we present you:

GESIS thematic data collection on Environment and Climate

Climate change is a significant challenge for global society. Although the consequences of global climate change are becoming increasingly evident, the public debate on climate policy is strongly polarized. While right-wing populist parties are stirring up sentiment against climate policy measures, climate movements such as Last Generation and Fridays for Future are gaining attention with their spectacular actions and mass protests. From a social science perspective, sound empirical data is crucial for investigating public opinion on issues related to climate change and the environment.

GESIS has curated a thematic collection on climate change and environmental protection, which includes survey data on topics such as climate change, energy policy, environmental awareness, transportation, and sustainability. In particular, the GESIS Panel and the German Internet Panel (GIP) are noteworthy for tracking the climate-related attitudes of the German population using a panel design. Additionally, studies conducted by the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection are deserving of special attention as they provide repeated cross-sectional data. Finally, the thematic collection also includes data from the ‘Environment’ module of the International Social Survey Program (ISSP). This module provides comparative data on specific topics such as environmental awareness or sustainability.
